Both of our creeks - Disappointment and Dawson - are running, so the horses are able to take advantage of flowing water. Dawson Creek is a clear-running stream that doesn't last long, but it fills our pond; Disappointment Creek, though it runs longer and more consistently, carries a heavy load of sediment (in other words, it's pretty muddy). But water is water in the desert!
That's Shelby in the main photo above, with the La Sal Mountains of Utah in the background. She looks like she wintered well, eh? The dappled grey in the photos below is Ember, and the lighter grey is Two Boots. They're in Gideon's band with three other mares.
In the far-away photo, you can see members of our "big mare band" way to the north across the ranch.
We're grateful to get some moisture recently, and we're very happy to see the season swinging toward spring. :)
