Unfortunatly, there is no shortage of elephants in need of rescue. The Serengeti Foundation is currently working to secure the freedom of the following elephants.
Doa - 32 year old femaleDoa works with her mahout begging from tourists in the streets of the city up to 18 hours per day. Overnight, she feeds along the riverbank which is very polluted. She has acquired a very contagious skin disease, which untreated will eventually kill her. She can still be saved, though the window of opportunity is closing fast. The price for her is about $5,500 US.
The Un-named Elephant - 20 year old maleThis possibly magnificent male is on his last legs. He is 20 years old, and has encountered an incredible array of pain in his life. He has endured a gun shot wound, a knife would, both because he refused to obey his mahout during is "Musth".
